Chad Reed Takes The Podium

etnies moto-x rider Chad Reed took second place at the Monster Energy AMA Supercross over the weekend at Toronto’s Rogers Centre. His consecutive podium finishes have elevated him to three points clear of Ryan Villapoto in the championship standing and is now the new leader of the 2011 Monster Energy AMA Supercross. He competes again next weekend at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

etnies Rally Driver Tanner Foust To Compete in First Ever Global RallyCross Championship

etnies is proud to support the Global RallyCross Championship (GRC) with its driver Tanner Foust competing in the first event set to kick off this weekend at Irwindale Speedway. Tanner Foust swept X Games 16 taking first in both rally events, and will be competing in the series alongside top drivers from both U.S. and European rallycross championships.

“The etnies rally drivers had a really successful first year in 2010, and I am really looking forward to seeing them continue their success in the new GRC series,” said Mike Regan, etnies brand director.

“What we're going to be doing at this first round of the Global RallyCross Championship is setting the tone for the season,” said Brian Gale, co-founder of Global RallyCross Management. “We have amazing athletes and great cars. Really what we want to do for the first go around is capture the best and most exciting elements of X Games rally: the jump, the cars, and good, exciting competition between the athletes."

The GRC season opener named “The Revolution” will take place March 25-26, at Irwindale, CA. Round two moves to an exciting new facility outside of Seattle April 15-16, and competitors will hit the large oval at Pikes Peak International Raceway in Colorado Springs, CO, June 17-18, for Round three. The RallyCar organization will sanction the events. The GRC races will be featured on ESPN and ESPN2, following the NASCAR Nationwide Series Race and NHRA Championships.

The Rockstar etnies TFR rally team was instantly thrown into the spotlight with its domination at X Games 16. Tanner Foust and Brian Deegan earned gold and silver medals in all events, confirming their talent in the sport. Foust is known for his winning record in the motorsports world, along with appearances as the lead stunt driver in Dukes of Hazzard, Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift, and The Bourne Ultimatum.

The Etnies rainforest is alive

Last Friday, deep into northern Costa Rica, etnies’ team riders and brand leadership, the Maleku indigenous tribe, La Reserva Forest Foundation and hundreds of Costa Rican natives gathered on a patch of deforested land to celebrate the planting of the first 150 trees of the etnies Rainforest. The etnies Buy a Shoe, Plant a Tree program started out as a single idea to be a part of reforesting the Earth through sales of etnies’ Jameson 2 Eco shoes, and turned into a big, ceremonious project that united three groups to reach their common goal of planting trees–to sustain the future of the Maleku’s traditional way of life, restore a biological corridor and to help impact global climate change.

With shovels in hand, Pierre-André Senizergues (CEO and owner of etnies), Alfredo Acosta Blanco of the Maleku, Roberta Ward Smiley (co-founder of La Reserva) and etnies’ pro riders Ryan Sheckler, Kyle Leeper, Chris Del Moro, CJ Kanuha and Benji Weatherly, planted the first trees in what will become the etnies Rainforest on the Maleku reserve.

“The name etnies comes from the word tribe. For etnies to have the opportunity to unite with the passionate people of the Maleku tribe and La Reserva on this very important reforestation project is one of my proudest moments in etnies’ 25 year history,” said Pierre-André Senizergues. “I am incredibly honored to stand beside this amazing group today and not only make history, but to come together to change the future by making our world a better place to live in for years to come!”

With the worldwide support of the Buy a Shoe, Plant a Tree project, etnies is on track to continue planting 35,000 trees in the forest beyond Friday’s ceremony. Through this project and with the help from La Reserva Forest Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to the recovery and preservation of indigenous tropical rainforests in Costa Rica, the new forest will help the Maleku to replenish their reserve with the trees that once maintained their community before their land was destroyed by cattle farmers and a violent rubber-tree war that massacred many of their people.
