Make Something

I really wish I was in California right now. Make Something is an initiative taken by RVCA, inviting youth to experience creative learning in a non-traditional setting. The classes are taught by artists in the Beautiful Losers film (Aaron Rose, Alex Kopps, Clare Rojas to name a few..) and other creative leaders in the surrounding community. Zine-making, painting, sculpture, photography, music, and animation and more workshops are being offered, all with the same DIY mindset. The walls of each “classroom” display many of the works created on-site, and will hence become an ever-evolving gallery of young ideas in artistic practice.

You Es Eh North American Tour

Canada was able to get a bit of eS love as they rounded the top of the United
States on the East Coast leg of their huge North American tour. We scheduled
them for a stop in Winnipeg for a demo at the Forks Skate Plaza. Unfortunately,
we got rained out of that plan and had to quickly adjust by taking it indoors
to The Edge Skate park. The team made the most of it and put on a show for
the people that endured the rain. We then made our way to Vancouver
for a mini ramp session and bbq at Antisocial Skate Shop before returning back
to the united states to finish off the tour in California. All in all, it had
good turnouts and was successful despite the raindrops. Thanks to everyone at
Sk8 Skates, The Edge Skate Park, Royal Sports, Kings skate snow and surf,
Antisocial Skateshop, Timebomb Trading, Sole Technology , Cyrus Thiedeke for
holding down the mic duties, Mike McKinlay for filming and of course Scuba
Steve and the Es shoe team for making it happen. - Judah Oakes

Ed Colver

Originally obtaining notoriety for documenting the early Los Angeles Punk scene and culture, Edward Colver has captured some of the most iconic photos ever shot. But this was just the beginning. Edward, with his discerning eye, has over the years captured photographic images that stand alone as art beyond the realm of the L.A. punk days.

On August 29, Freshjive and the Reserve store will be exhibiting some of Ed’s more obscure but equally powerful photos, some of which have never been seen before.

Skate & Create

A few months ago, Emerica was invited to participate in a Transworld Skateboarding “contest” called Skate & Create. Kevin “Spanky” Long, Braydon Szafranski, Leo Romero, Bryan Herman, and MVP Brandon Westgate spent 9 days in a warehouse, and created an environment that represented Emerica through video and photography, WITHOUT the use of any photo-shop or artificial photo manipulation.

What resulted was a brilliantly creative video..

12 Questions with Deanna Templeton

1. What are your favorites things to do?

I love traveling with Ed. Shooting photos. Hanging out with my brother and his family. Looking at books and drinking tasty beverages. Exercise while listening to Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me. Riding my bike to the beach.

2. How old is your cat?

Ptah will be 18 this December!

3. When did you start taking photos? What got you into taking photos?

Are starting taking photos twice. The first time was when I was 15, my friend Kim was a photographer and we would sneak into shows so she could shoot the bands and then she would develop and print them in our school photo lab. I would just stand than watching in awe as the paper would come alive with an image that she captured and so from that I decided I wanted to take photos myself. So under some weird circumstances my Mom got me a Canon T-90 which I used for about 3 years. Then I went on a trip to Guadalajara and naively packed my camera in my checked luggage. Someone from the airport thought they also wanted to be a photographer and took my camera to become one. So about 8-10 years passed when Ed gave me a Canon AE-1 for a Christmas present. That was the 2nd time I got into photographing. I now keep my cameras on my person when I travel.
